While it’s tempting to think that as long as you pack all of your belongings neatly into boxes, moving them is as simple as stacking them in the back of your Tampa moving truck. Unfortunately, for the safety of your items as well as the moving equipment and staff, there are certain items that Lincoln Moving & Storage and Atlas Van Lines cannot move for you. Be sure and check for the following items before your big moving day:

Hazardous Materials

As their name implies, hazardous materials can pose a threat to the safety to you, the moving staff and your household alike. If you have any of the following materials, be sure and make a plan to safely and properly dispose of them if you are not planning to give them away. Hazardous materials include, but are not limited to:

  • Explosive Items; Fireworks
  • Acids
  • Aerosols
  • Batteries
  • Charcoal and Charcoal Lighter Fluid
  • Cleaning Solvents
  • Nail Polish Remover
  • Paints and Paint Thinner
  • Pool Chemicals
  • Loaded Guns and Supplies
  • Poisons and Pesticides

Be sure and contact your moving company immediately if you have any questions about what is okay to pack and what could be hazardous.

Perishable Materials

Perishable items include anything that may die or spoil during transit; frozen, refrigerated, or opened food products are good examples. Both indoor and outdoor plants are also considered perishable, as the conditions of the moving truck are not ideal for their transport. Only under very specific circumstances can movers transport perishable items for you. Call your moving representative for more details.

Sentimental & Personal Items

While most moving companies can transport items that are of personal or sentimental value, it is generally best to move them yourself. That way, if there are any unforeseen problems with your shipment, you don’t have to worry—especially if the item(s) are irreplaceable or especially valuable. Consider keeping items such as these with you during your relocation:

  • Airline Tickets
  • Car Titles
  • Keys and Money
  • Cell Phones
  • Legal & Financial Documents
  • Photographs
  • School Records
  • Medicine & Medical Records
  • Jewelry
  • Insurance Policies
